Hyphenated-Homestead

This is bit of a detour from my personal narratives so far, for a reason. Read on!

Blame WordPress for this quick off-the-track post. Haha! Not really. The motivation behind sharing this little excerpt today extends to the cultivation of writing practice fostered by the daily prompts provided by WordPress, especially for the whole month of January. They call it #bloganuary. While I may not strictly adhere to these prompts the whole month, I keenly observe and ponder about them.

Recently, a prompt struck a chord, posing the question. “If you had a freeway billboard, what would it say?”

My answer: ‘Give your passport a workout – leave your homeland at least once! The world’s got a lot more to offer than just Wi-Fi and your grandma’s lasagna. Go on, be a global citizen, not just a Netflix subscriber!’

And when I say, “leave your homeland at least once” I mean not just for a fleeting business trip or a two-week vacation – I mean really live in the unfamiliar town, country, or culture for a stretch, at least a couple of months, and preferably more. Because there’s a lot more to the world than your hometown coffee shop or that familiar street corner.

Call this my extended imagination, but it’s almost as if WordPress caught wind of my blog, Hyphenated-Homestead, and decided to give me a virtual nod. Giving me a free pass to have my own highway billboard to tap into the essence of my theme, representing not just a linguistic connection but a bridge to a broader, interconnected world.

Isn’t that what highways do so effortlessly? Connect us to the unfamiliar towns and cities and expand our horizon and reach?

Perhaps the recent prompts were a subtle whisper from the algorithm, aligning with the very sentiments I’ve been weaving into my stories. I think WordPress gets the heart behind ‘Hyphenated-Homestead,’ recognizing the importance of breaking free from the confines of one’s cultural comfort zone. What do you think?

So, as my words find their way onto a virtual billboard, it’s a nod to the power of expression and the delightful synchronicity when the digital universe seems to resonate with the tales of a hyphenated homesteader exploring the world beyond borders.
